Principled Technologies (PT) hands-on testing compared a Kompanio 540 processor-based Chromebook to two Intel N-series processor-based Chromebooks

SAN JOSE, CA, UNITED STATES, September 21, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — As student access to Chromebooks expands, schools need devices that can keep pace with a full day of browser tabs, video calls, and classroom apps without adding complexity for students, teachers, or IT staff. To help schools evaluate their options, MediaTek commissioned PT to compare a MediaTek Kompanio 540 processor-based Chromebook with two Chromebooks built around Intel N-series processors.

Test overview
PT put three similarly configured Chromebooks through hands-on testing: the Lenovo Chrome 100e G5 M89 powered by a MediaTek Kompanio 540 processor, the ASUS Chromebook CR11 powered by an Intel N100 processor, and the Acer Chromebook 511 C737 powered by an Intel N150 processor. Each device had 4 GB of memory, 64 GB of storage, and an 11.6-inch display. PT measured system benchmark performance, app responsiveness (both while plugged in without background apps running and while multitasking on battery power), and battery life during video playback.

Key findings from PT hands-on testing
• Benchmark performance: The MediaTek Kompanio processor-based Chromebook earned a PassMark PerformanceTest 11 rating 34 percent higher than the Intel N150 processor-based Chromebook and 13 percent higher than the Intel N100 processor-based Chromebook.
• Multitasking responsiveness: With Google Meet and Google Classroom running in the background on battery power, the MediaTek Kompanio processor-based Chromebook needed up to 64 percent less time to complete actions in Minecraft and up to 31 percent less time to complete Adobe Photoshop actions than the Intel N150 processor-based Chromebook. Additionally, it offered more consistent performance overall between the first test scenario (no background apps, plugged in) and the second (multitasking, unplugged).
• Battery life: The MediaTek Kompanio processor-based Chromebook streamed video for 15 hours and 44 minutes, which was 4 hours and 24 minutes longer than the Intel N100 processor-based Chromebook and 3 hours and 39 minutes longer than the Intel N150 processor-based Chromebook. It was also more efficient, delivering up to 38 percent more minutes per Whr than the Intel processor-based Chromebooks.

Analysis
The source report concludes that the combination of responsive multitasking and longer battery life could support “a smoother school day for students while helping teachers keep more attention on instruction.”

For education systems weighing Chromebook options for one-device-per-student programs, the results suggest that processor choice can shape how much of the school day a device stays productive and unplugged.
